Climate Change

Edison International is a proven leader in reducing emissions through the deployment of clean generation technologies and investments in energy efficiency.Climate change will continue to be a focus of our work as we build on our industry leadership in renewable energy and emissions reduction.

Successfully meeting the challenge of climate change requires a regulatory program that is at least national in scope, market-based, equitable and comprehensive in nature, such that all sources of greenhouse gases are regulated and all certifiable means of reducing and offsetting such emissions are recognized. Any new climate change policy should:

  • Protect the environment, the economy and our national security.
  • Seek out cost-effective, immediate reductions through comprehensive efforts to maximize energy efficiency, deploy renewable sources of energy and other low carbon emitting technologies.
  • Include long-term, technologically reasonable and realistic reduction targets.
  • Ensure that all emitting sectors of society equitably share the economic burden of reducing greenhouse gas emissions and warding off harmful global climate change.
  • Encourage the free markets of the nation and the world to employ the most cost-effective greenhouse
    gas emission reduction measures available.
  • Complement regulations controlling emissions of criteria pollutants to maximize environmental protection and deployment of emissions reduction technology.
  • Ensure we maintain accurate and validated inventories of greenhouse gas emissions.
  • Recognize that to achieve our emission reduction goals, national and state support is needed in the development and deployment of new technologies.
