Edison has four areas of core giving:

Education

We believe that education is critical to maintaining, and growing, a vibrant society. Our educational partnerships nurture the imaginations and foster the academic success of the future workforce. The company’s support within this arena focuses on science, technology, engineering, arts and math (STEAM), all of which help to build a foundation for student empowerment and innovation. We aim to power future generations to greatness through these five areas of academics, with the hope that we can inspire today’s students to achieve a brighter future.

Environment

Environmental Giving

We are committed to helping our region, our state, nation and the planet--- and as one of the largest producers and distributors of renewable energy to our customers; we are working towards solutions to provide power more efficiently and sustainably.

One of our environmental partners is the California State Parks Foundation. Each year, our company is a sponsor of their annual Earth Day Restoration and Cleanup.

Chicago’s Lincoln Park Zoological Society South Pond Restoration

Lincoln Park Zoo, in partnership with the Chicago Park District and with the endorsement of then Mayor Richard Daley, led the effort supported by a grant of $150,000 from Edison International, to transform the South Pond, one of the most historically significant and popular recreational areas in Lincoln Park. This comprehensive environmental project provides the opportunity to tell a local urban conservation and sustainability story. This outdoor "living classroom" is a center for local conservation education for millions of general zoo and park visitors, as well as students and teachers. It is a national model for urban conservation that can be emulated by cities across the country. Wind turbines were installed as part of the project to demonstrate sources of renewable energy.

LA Conservation Corps

We plan to partner with the LA Conservation Corps this year in support of the Clean & Green program, which engages over 1,000 middle and high school youth to spend weekends and school vacations to gain job skills while being educated on the value and importance of preserving the environment.

Civic

We strive to be a good neighbor, and a key part of the communities where we do business as well as where our employees live and work. For more than 125 years, we have been a part of this fabric and continuously work towards strengthening our neighborhoods so we can all live, grow, learn, work and play in a safe, prosperous and inclusive environment. We have a responsibility to be involved, and pride ourselves on being an active participant. Civic health is critical and as such, we will focus on activities and organizations that promote engagement and economic development. This includes grassroots community groups and our region’s veterans.

Southern California Edison (SCE) is committed to helping customers when they need it the most. Since 1982, SCE has provided financial assistance to income-qualified customers through the Energy Assistance Fund (EAF), SCE’s non-profit and only direct payment assistance program. EAF helps customers who meet income guidelines, many of whom are seniors, disabled, or are facing financial hardships. This fund is an important part of our customer outreach efforts - especially in today’s challenging economic environment - providing critical support to our customers who are having difficulty paying their electric bills. A maximum of $100 is available to qualified customers once in a 12-month period.

Going Beyond the Dollars

Community Forums, Money Saving Programs and our Speakers Bureau are just a few ways in which our company is in your community.

Public Safety/Preparedness

We work hard to keep our communities safe, and you too can be part of the solution.

Safety is the highest priority for us and is a constant in everything we do. We are committed to the safety of the public and our employees. Preparedness is key to being able to best cope with emergencies, especially in the event of a major disaster or catastrophe. Whether we face downed power lines, an earthquake, fire or flood, preparedness will help us to reduce our risks and enable a swift rescue, recovery or rebuilding effort to take place. We are committed to assisting our communities to best prepare for the inevitable.

We are diligently working to inform our customers and the community about SCE Safety. We produced a public service announcement to demonstrate safe practices in the event of down power lines.

Our children’s safety is of utmost importance and we want to help parents and teachers with tools to help kids live a safe life, especially around electricity. Helpful tips and a free booklet are available on our Kids Safety site.

Preparation for emergencies is often on our “list” but in many cases we don’t get around to it until after a disaster strikes. Edison International wants to help you and your family be prepared for any emergency situation that may occur.
