General Rate Case
The 2009 application represents Edison’s estimates of the costs to provide reliable service during the period 2009 through 2011. It is the result of a detailed review of the costs associated with meeting the challenges of the region’s population and business growth, as well as the replacement of aging components of SCE’s power grid.

In a rate case proceeding, utilities seek authorization to collect revenues for operations and maintenance expenses as well as capital investment. In SCE’s case, this represents approximately 40 percent of the total revenues needed to serve customers. The remaining 60 percent — power plant fuel and purchased power costs — is reviewed in other regulatory proceedings.
