Vice President, Major Projects Organization
Southern California Edison
Kevin R. Cini was appointed as vice president of the Major Projects Organization at Southern California Edison (SCE) effective July 2013. In this role Cini is responsible for overseeing the development of SCE’s major transmission and substation projects.
Cini served as vice president of the Rate Challenge Project at SCE from October 2011 to July 2013. The Rate Challenge Project was an 18- to 24-month initiative to optimize approximately $8 billion per year in capital and O&M spending. The project concluded on time and yielded substantial cost savings and productivity gains.
Cini served as SCE’s vice president of Energy Supply & Management from 2007 to October 2011. In this role, he oversaw conventional power procurement and trading to meet the power supply needs of SCE’s “bundled” customers, natural gas procurement for owned and contracted gas-fired generation, financial hedging and risk management, and least-cost dispatch of SCE’s generation portfolio.
Cini has worked for SCE for 31 years. He started his SCE career at San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station working as supervisor of chemistry at Unit 1. In 1987 he joined the Fuel Supply organization that eventually became Energy Supply & Management. Cini became director of Energy Supply & Management in 1997 just prior to California’s electric market restructuring.
Cini earned a master’s degree in business administration and a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from the University of California, Irvine. Prior to joining SCE, he served in the U.S. Navy as a nuclear-trained submarine officer.
