Phil Herrington

Senior Vice President, Transmission & Distribution
Southern California Edison

Phil Herrington is senior vice president of Transmission & Distribution at Southern California Edison (SCE), one of the largest electric utilities in the country.  He is responsible for the operation, maintenance and modernization of SCE’s electrical grid that covers a 50,000 square-mile service area. 

Prior to his current role, Herrington served as vice president of Generation at SCE, overseeing the power production assets of the company, including construction of the award-winning hybrid enhanced gas turbines at two peaker plants. 

Herrington was previously with The AES Corporation, where he held a number of leadership positions, including president of AES Competitive Generation, which operates and manages generating assets in the United States.  He also served as president and chief executive officer of Dayton Power & Light, and president of AES Global Wind Generation.

Before joining AES, Herrington worked at Edison Mission Energy (EME) for more than 17 years, which at the time was a subsidiary of Edison International, the parent company of SCE.  He served in leadership roles in operations, asset management  and business development. 

Prior to EME, Herrington was a project manager with Monsanto Chemical.  He started his career in the U.S. Navy nuclear submarine program.

Herrington earned a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and a master’s degree in business administration and finance from the University of Southern California’s Marshall School of Business.
