Phil Herrington

Vice President, Generation

Phil Herrington is vice president of Generation at Southern California Edison (SCE), one of the largest electric utilities in the country.  He is responsible for operating and maintaining the power production assets of the company, which include hydro, combustion turbine, combined-cycle gas turbine, commercial rooftop solar and fuel cell facilities

Herrington was previously with The AES Corporation, where he held a number of leadership positions, including president of AES Competitive Generation, which operates and manages generating assets in the United States. He also served as president and chief executive officer of Dayton Power & Light, and president of AES Global Wind Generation.

Before joining AES, Herrington worked at Edison Mission Energy (EME) for more than 17 years, which at the time was a subsidiary of Edison International, the parent company of SCE. His roles included positions in asset management, operations and development. Most recently he served as vice president of Commercial Management and Operations at EME, responsible for managing teams that performed scheduling, dispatch and settlement of EME’s merchant platform, and overseeing the commercial aspects of EME’s investments in operating wind and natural gas-fired assets.

Prior to EME, Herrington was a project manager with Monsanto Chemical. He started his career in the U.S. Navy nuclear submarine program.

Herrington earned a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and a master’s degree in business administration and finance from the University of Southern California’s Marshall School of Business.
