Southern California Edison launched the Clean Energy Access Working Group in a groundbreaking partnership with The Greenlining Institute, environmental and community groups, and faith-based organizations to make sure no community is left behind as we move toward a clean energy future.
A Clean Energy Future for All
California has some of the most ambitious environmental goals in the world, aiming to reduce greenhouse gas emissions 40 percent below 1990 levels by 2030, and 80 percent by 2050. And there’s an important reason why – the state has some of the worst air quality in the nation.
About 45 percent of residential households within SCE’s service area are located in disadvantaged communities and low-income communities and vulnerable to extreme pollution and poverty, and many qualify for subsidized electric rates. These communities need extra help to achieve the benefits of adopting clean energy technology, such as rooftop solar, community solar, and electric vehicles, and to make this technology accessible and affordable. The Clean Energy Access Working Group will bring these community voices to the table to make sure their concerns are heard and integrated into future energy policies and regulations.
Activities in the Works
The Clean Energy Access Working Group is developing pilots and regulatory and legislative initiatives focused on electric vehicles and sustainable, scalable, and affordable community solutions for healthy air and climate.
